LESS IS MORE.
Recently I met with an innovator to work on the pitch they were preparing for an upcoming event. The deck was packed with information, clunky in its design, and created a significant level of confusion. Less is more when presenting to your audience.
This is not uncommon for innovators. They become so intertwined in the idea and their capabilities that the way it is presented becomes complex and sometimes confusing. When this happens, sales can be lost, clients can become confused, and investors may run away.
The key components I find make presentations most successful:
- What is the problem?
- Why should the client care?
- How do you solve it better than others?
- What is the experience of your innovation like?
- Final Thoughts
- Proposed Next Steps
The deck should not be greater than ten slides; the slide cannot be cluttered and must tell a story. Read that again; your deck must tell a story.
When you play to your audience’s emotions, you break through and get them to champion your solution forward.
The way you present to your audience will impact how you Position Your Brand.
